Volunteer Camp in Nashville

We worked with two Care Bear Volunteer Camps for rising 2nd-6th grade girls in the Harpeth Hall Summer Program in June. The 24 girls participated in asset-building service-learning projects each day as they explored a variety of community issues and what they could do to make a difference. Assets were infused into each day as girls talked about each asset, how it connected to the service they were doing and what that asset meant. Here’s what the camp accomplished:
  • Read books with 25 preschool children at Grace Eaton Daycare Center.
Decorated flags and played board games with 25 school age children at Grace Eaton Daycare Center.
Made 6 dozen multi-colored crayon cookies out of recycled crayons to give to children at Vanderbilt Children's Hospital.
Sorted 9 huge bins of soda pop tabs for a fundraiser at the Ronald McDonald House.
Pulled weeds in 4 flower gardens at the Ronald McDonald House.
Walked dogs and played with cats at the Williamson County Humane Association.
Decorated 24 animal collars, made 28 cat toys, made 20 dog toys, decorated 13 catfood dishes, and 13 picture frames for families that adopt animals.
Made 25 signs encouraging people to adopt animals at the Williamson County Humane Association.
Packaged over 30 emergency food boxes for low-income families in middle Tennessee.
Sorted some 30 odd boxes of food for Charis Ministries to distribute to low-income families in middle Tennessee.
Painted 17 cards for families receiving emergency food boxes.
Helped Wedgewood Urban Gardens with weeding, mulching, and measuring compost pile temperatures.
Decorated 20 garden stakes for Wedgewood Urban Gardens

We are SO proud of these young girls!
