School's Out - Indoor Fun Day Nine - Making Mosaics.

Recycle your old Christmas cards by making mosaics (and Christmas gift tags for next year!).

Gather together a pile of Christmas cards. Cut out the pictures and/or messages that you can re-use for next year to make Christmas gift tags.

Give the rest of the card materials and/or recycled paper in various colors to your children. Instruct them to cut the cards into various small shapes and sizes. Give them a glue stick and ask them to paste the shapes onto black paper to make their own "stained glass" mosaic.

You could also first draw an large outline of a simple shape/pattern (a star, a snowman, a house, a tree...) and invite your children to glue their shapes inside the pattern to make a new design.

This activty builds the Developmental Asset categories of Constructive Use of Time, Commitment to Learning, Positive Values and Social Competencies.
